Easy Homemade Bread: an activity for children of all ages. In this activity, children will learn how to make bread. To make bread without a bread maker, you can make this fun homemade bread in a bag recipe found on littlesproutslearning.co.

  • Supplies:
    • bread machine
    • bread pan
    • cooking spray
  • Ingredients:
    • 1 1/4 cups water
    • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil – or butter or another oil of your choice
    • 3 cups whole wheat flour (you can grind your own flour in a Vitamix blender or stone mill using organic whole wheat berries). Freshly ground flour not only tastes better, but it is also healthier for you, since it loses it’s nutrients as it sits. It also doesn’t have any additives and preservatives.
    • 1/4 cup honey
    • 1 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1 3/4 tsp regular active dry yeast OR machine yeast OR quick-acting active dry yeast
  • Read one or more of the following books:
  • Toss in all of the ingredients together into the bread machine in the order listed.
  • Set the bread maker on the ‘dough cycle’ and let the bread maker do most of the work.
  • When the dough is ready (usually after 90 minutes), remove the dough from the machine, punch it down and put it in a prepared bread pan.
  • Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes or so.
  • After the second rise, bake it at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes.
  • Take pictures of your bread and tag #theabundantgarden on Instagram to share your fun and for an opportunity to be featured @theabundantgarden.
  • Pairing this with butter and jam makes a great gift to bring to a neighbor.
