Herbal Sun Tea

Herbal Sun Tea: a recipe for children of all ages. In this activity, children will learn another use for edible herbs.

  • Supplies:
    • 1-2 cups fresh herbs such as mint, lemon verbena, lemon balm, lavender, nettle, or chamomile (consider experimenting by making a blend)
    • mason jar
    • 1 quart water
    • sugar or honey as desired
  • In the morning, pick leaves from your favorite herb to make tea and put them into a jar.
  • Pour the water over the leaves. Put the lid securely on and shake. Leave the jar outside in the sun and shake occasionally.
  • In the afternoon, the tea should show color and be warm.
  • Strain the leaves and flowers.
  • Add sugar or honey to taste as desired.
  • Serve hot or cold at a tea party!
