Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet Potato Fries: an activity for children of all ages. Sweet potatoes are healthier than regular potatoes and make a great side to many meals. They are easy to make and yummy to eat!

  • Supplies:
    • sharp knife (use parental discretion with children)
    • cutting board
    • baking sheet
    • parchment paper or baking mat
    • bowl
    • wooden spoon
    • spatula
  • Ingredients:
    • 2 lbs sweet potatoes (washed, then sliced)
    • 2 1/2 Tbsp (or more depending on desire) grapeseed oil, ghee, butter, or another high heat tolerant oil
    • salt, seasoning salt, steak seasoning, or Mrs. Dash
    • freshly ground black pepper
    • seasoning ideas: paprika, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, garlic powder, cut fresh parsley, or freshly pressed garlic
    • ketchup, or mayonnaise and Sriracha
  • Preheat oven to 425 degree F.
  • Wash and slice the sweet potatoes 1/4 inch thick.
  • Place the potatoes in a large bowl and toss to coat with oil.
  • Combine the salt and pepper and other seasonings as desired.
  • Add seasonings to the bowl of sweet potatoes and stir well.
  • Place evenly spaced on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. (The more room between fries, the crispier they will be.)
  • Flip and continue to bake for another 10-15 minutes or until golden brown as desired.
  • For dipping sauce other than ketchup, you can mix 3 parts mayonnaise with 1 part Sriracha or ketchup
