"Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace." May Sarton
Gardening teaches essential character traits such as patience, grace, persistence, responsibility, the joy of hard work, and respect for God's creation.
Using Dr. Raymond Moore’s formula of study, work, and service, and Charlotte Mason's method, "education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life", we, a science teacher and home school mother of four, have created an online gardening curriculum specifically designed for preschool through elementary-aged children (but is available for everyone.) If you have land or live in an apartment, if you homeschool or go to school, if you learn by reading or by doing, The Abundant Garden: Growing Quality Kids Through Gardening curriculum will help you learn all the important lessons that gardening has to offer. Our curriculum is designed to be an experience, project, and literature-based way of learning for the entire family.
This curriculum is divided into 10 units of four lessons. One unit for each month starting with September and ending in June. Each unit will be released one month ahead of time to allow you time to plan how to utilize the lessons, videos, books, and fun activities for the upcoming month. The release date for the first unit is August 7, 2017.
Cross-curriculum subjects studied:
- organic Math
- English grammar
- Health and Nutrition
- Life skills
- Physical Education
The course includes:
- The Abundant Garden: Growing Quality Kids Through Gardening PDF
- 10 monthly units consisting of four lessons per month: (a total of 40 lessons)
- the study of basic gardening concepts with practical applications and activities
- a theme plant
- a garden creature of the month
- an influential pioneer in gardening/agriculture
- supply list with each activity
- recommended book-list with each week's lesson
- monthly gardening goals that will help you to gradually build and improve your garden and your gardening skills
- weekly memory verses
The goal of this course is to help you to not only grow fruits and vegetables, but more importantly to grow the body, mind, heart, and soul of your child.
We've added a PDF to our gardening curriculum this year so we made the following video showing you how easy it is to use. Simply print the PDF and download a QR reader to your device for a way to easily link to amazon.com, YouTube videos, and Pinterest boards used in the course.
Gardening is not only a yearlong adventure, but a year-after-year learning experience. With this in mind, we have included purchasing options that make continued access easy and affordable. Both kinds of extended access (subscription or 5 year access) will include updates and additions to the course as they are made.

I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this curriculum last year and excited to do it again this year. It is the most uncomplicated, yet deeply rich curriculum that had folds upon folds of GREAT information (I'm so glad you're creating the pdf). This is the best, thoroughly researched, and exciting curriculum I've used. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with the world.
I love all your lessons! Very well planned and researched with interesting links. The reading lists are also fun and nice to tie into the lessons. I also enjoy the recipes…going to try to make the apple cider doughnut holes this week:)
This curriculum is saving me from another one I had purchased. I kept reading over it and I just kept feeling like my children should be able to learn the concepts by DOING and the curriculum didn't allow for that. The next day I saw your curriculum and couldn't by it fast enough!! Thank you for changing my year!!!
The boys and I made apple cider donuts last week using the donut maker you recommended from Amazon. It worked wonderfully, and we had such a fun time together! This will definitely become a yearly tradition in our family
Our family is loving The Abundant Garden ecourse! The flexibility of this course and ease of use has been a blessing for the implementation of these lovely ideas into our homeschool routine. It isn't overwhelming, and it's something my kids cheerfully look forward to! One of my favorite things about this course is how it brings the whole family together, uniting us toward a common goal-all while allowing us to have fun and create lasting memories. We are so excited about the broad range of topics offered and the carefully curated literature recommendations and activities. Thank you Joey and Heidi! May God Bless these and all of your future endeavors in this noble arena!
Love it! I wish I had this resource years ago. God bless you!
Such great courses! We are behind a bit & just started the apple ecourse yesterday, but LOVE it. Such lovely book suggestions & great video links. Total score! Thanks for all your hard work – we’re benefiting from it!
